Your Role in the Restaurant Organization (Section two)

The organization or arrangement of jobs in a restaurant diagrammed on paper is known as the organization chart. Knowing how you fit into the organization chart helps you function in your job. In the dining room organizational structure, bussers and servers report to their immediate supervisor, who may be a head server. The head server reports to the host or maˆıtre d’hˆotel, who reports to the dining roommanager. The dining room manager reports to management. In small restaurants, one person may assume several of these positions. For instance, your immediate supervisor may be a maˆıtre d’hˆotel or host who also assumes the head server’s job. In large restaurants, additional staff, such as an expeditor, may help the server bring food from the kitchen. To avoid causing problems within the organization, follow the organizational structure. When you have questions or problems concerning the rules, regulations, or policies, talk to your immediate supervisor. Your supervisor has more experience and is in a position to solve certain problems.

People who have these qualifications make good servers. To qualify for await staff position, you must be: Reliable. Management must feel confident that you are capable of fulfilling your job responsibilities. You must report to work on time, serve the guests properly, and complete all tasks assigned to you.

Wynn Resorts sues Resorts World Las Vegas over “similar design”

Hotel News - Wynn Resorts has filed a five-count trademark infringement and unfair competition lawsuit against Resorts World Las Vegas LLC. The cause of the suit is the Resorts World property that is currently under construction on the Las Vegas Strip. The $4 billion, 3,000-room resort is expected to open in late 2020. Local news reports say that the suit alleges that this property’s design looks a little too similar to the nearby Wynn Las Vegas and Encore buildings. The 17-page lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court of Nevada last month claims the designs have already confused some people and that they have the potential to mislead customers into thinking that the two properties are affiliated with each other. The complaint also has Wynn Resorts claiming that Resorts World’s design scheme uses Wynn’s registered architectural design, which consists of a three-dimensional building that features a concave facade, curved bronze glass, and horizontal banding above and between the lines of its glass panes. In addition, the design of the new Resorts World Las Vegas is said to be confusingly similar to the plaintiff’s architectural trade dress and copyrighted architectural work. “The architectural design embodied in defendant’s Resorts World Las Vegas hotel and casino is substantially similar to plaintiff’s registered copyrighted architectural work, and therefore defendant is violating plaintiff’s copyrights in addition to plaintiff’s registered and common law trade dress,” the lawsuit says. The new property is directly across the street, and as such is likely to confuse or even deceive the public, according to the lawsuit. In summation, the five counts of the suit list federal trade dress infringement, unfair competition, federal trademark dilution, state trademark dilution, and copyright infringement. The Wynn Las Vegas first opened back in 2005, followed by Encore in 2008. The Resorts World property is slated to open some time in 2020.

Grace St. Moritz Switzerland

Grace Hotels acquired La Margna, a landmark St. Moritz property, built in 1906. The renovation and extension of an annex building will transform the property into the Grace St. Moritz and St. Moritz Residences. When it opens, the hotel will have 56 guest rooms and suites, plus 17 several serviced apartments with views of the lake. It will also have three restaurants. The spa will be redesigned and a new gym and swimming pool will be added. Ski facilities will also be upgraded. The hotel has been owned by the Schweizer-Pitsch family for 50 years, who are reportedly retiring from the hotel business. Construction is slated to continue on this property throughout 2019 and much of 2020 as well, with a targeted opening date of later that year.

Saudi government paid for rooms at Trump's DC hotel

A lobbying firm backed by Saudi Arabia booked hundreds of rooms at the Trump International Hotel in Washington shortly after the 2016 election, The Washington Post reported Wednesday.  The firm, Qorvis/MSLGroup, "has long represented the Saudi government in the United States," according to the Post. The group booked nearly 500 nights at the hotel to house US military veterans who were invited to DC to lobby against a law the Saudis opposed, the Post said, citing veterans and organizers of the trips. "In all, the lobbyists spent more than $270,000 to house six groups of visiting veterans at the Trump hotel, which Trump still owns," the paper said. Although the bill for the rooms was footed by the Saudis, only American veterans stayed in them during trips in December 2016 and January and February 2017, according to the paper.  The Post reported that veterans were recruited to lobby lawmakers against the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act, which "opened the door to costly litigation alleging that the Saudi government bore some blame" for the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Some of the veterans, according to the paper, didn't know they were staying in rooms paid for by the Saudis. "It made all the sense in the world, when we found out that the Saudis had paid for it," Henry Garcia, a Navy veteran from Texas who went on several of the trips, told the paper.  During previous trips, the firm had booked rooms at a hotel in Virginia, the Post reported. But lobbyists, according to the paper, said they decided to stay at the Trump-branded hotel because of its room availability and discounts it had at the time; the goal was not to patronize one of President Donald Trump's hotels.  Citing financial records, the Post said that on average, rooms at the hotel went for $768 a night around the time of the visits.  A representative from the hotel declined CNN's request for comment, and the Saudi Embassy in Washington and Qorvis/MSLGroup did not immediately respond to CNN's requests for comment. CNN previously reported on two lawsuits by DC and Maryland that claim Trump is in violation of the Constitution's ban on emoluments -- payments from foreign or domestic government entities to the president -- because of his continued interest in the Trump International Hotel. The Post reported that the payments by the Saudis have become "ammunition" in the suits.  DC and Maryland have said the Trump International Hotel's operations put other nearby hotels and entertainment properties at a competitive disadvantage and that the Trump hotel got special tax concessions. The hotel won its lease on federally owned property in 2013, well before Trump's election. On Wednesday, subpoenas served to the Trump Organization and a dozen related business entities by the attorneys general of the District of Columbia and Maryland included demands for tax documents, which, if obtained, could begin to fill out a picture of the President's finances by providing information about his main income sources.

AccorHotels has continued to expand its portfolio in Vietnam with the signing of two new stunning sea-facing properties. Vietnam was named among the destinations with the biggest year-over-year increase in international tourist arrivals at 29.1 per cent, according to the United Nations World Tourism Organisation’s report.  This year, the number of foreign tourist arrivals to Vietnam in the first six months of 2018 surged 27.2 per cent year-on-year to 7.9 million. On July 1st this year, the Vietnamese government granted visa exemptions for tourists travelling from the UK, France, Germany, Spain and Italy for the next three years until June 2021. AccorHotels is the biggest international hotel operator in Vietnam with 6,101 rooms across a wide spectrum of brands. The group will be opening another 13 hotels across the country in the next two years, bringing the total portfolio to 41. To invite OTAs to a live debate

The head of the Association of Iran Travel Agencies invited representatives of OTAs to clarify the news released to the debate in the presence of journalists and media representatives. Referring to the letter sent to the head of one of the OTAs, Hermatollah Rafiee said: OTAs are pretending that they are nothing to do with it but, with a widespread news release, they are actually working on that. The head of the Association of Iran Travel Agencies of Iran, announced his readiness to debate with the representatives of these websites in the presence of journalists and media representatives. He said that they are also preparing for the debate with the presence of reporters to determine who is legal and who is not. He added: "The ultimate goal of these people is to exploit politically, and I will tell you definitely that the explanation which has been published on websites since yesterday is false." Hermatollah Rafiee continued, "If it is not false, three months ago some of these websites had not been closed and out of reach because of over pricing! The owners of these websites say that their business is legal, but they are making problem for five thousands travel agencies as well as the customers.
