HILTON EXPANDS IN MYANMAR Hilton is to add another property to its portfolio in Myanmar with a new signing of 308-room hotel in downtown Yangon. The Hilton Times City Yangon will form part of Hilton’s flagship Hotels and Resorts brand, and is easily accessible from both the airport and the city’s business district, and is part of a mixed-use complex. The new hotel will cater to Myanmar’s increasing tourism industry, with numbers of tourists visiting the country expected to reach 7.5 million by 2020. The hotel will cater to both business and leisure travelers, and offers 1250 sqm of meeting and conference space, as well as a business centre, fitness centre and spa, and five dining areas. This property will be Hilton’s fourth in Myanmar, and it is set to open in 2022.

David Harb has been appointed general manager of the Hyatt Regency Dubai & Galleria, where he will manage 421 hotel rooms and 388 residences. Harb has held several positions with Hyatt, beginning with Hyatt Regency New Orleans in Louisiana as assistant manager of food and beverage in 2002. He then went on to work at Hyatt Hotels in Georgia, Florida, Illinois and Washington, USA, before moving to Hyatt Regency Dubai as director of food and beverage in 2012. In May 2016, Harb became the executive assistant manager at Grand Hyatt Dubai, before being promoted as the hotel manager for Grand Hyatt Dubai.

Wyndham to open three hotels in Deira, Dubai

Hotel News - Wyndham Hotels & Resorts is set to increase its footprint in Dubai with three new managed hotels as part of the Deira Waterfront Development by Ithra Dubai, a wholly owned subsidiary of Investment Corporation of Dubai. The hotels will operate under the Wyndham, Days Inn by Wyndham, and Super 8 by Wyndham brands. Also known as the Deira Enrichment Project, Ithra Dubai’s development is a mixed-use area situated along the Dubai creek in the southern part of Deira. New US sanctions target Russian hotel in Crimea acknowledged as world’s best

The latest US sanctions against Russia have hit four Crimean hotels, including Mriya Resort & Spa that is ranked as the world’s best holiday hotel and resort by the prestigious World Travel Awards.  On Thursday, US Treasury department broadened the list of previously introduced Ukraine-related sanctions against Russia. The new list includes two Ukrainians, a Russian officer, and nine entities. The punitive measures were initially introduced in response to the reunification of the Crimean peninsula with Russia after a regional referendum in 2014. Washington had also accused Moscow of meddling with Ukrainian internal policy and fueling the conflict in eastern Ukraine. Russia’s Mriya Resort & Spa is located 25 kilometers from the Crimean city of Yalta. The complex was built with the financial support of Russia’s state-controlled lender Sberbank and is used to host the Yalta International Economic Forum. Apart from Mriya Resort & Spa the US sanctions target the Ai-Petri health resort, the Dulber holiday resort, and the Resort Complex Miskhor – all located in Crimea and established by the companies working in the peninsula.

The $ 6.5 million Nakheel contract to complete the PALM Hotel project

Master developer Nakheel today awarded a contract worth more than EUR5.6 million (AED23.7 million) for piling work at its iconic, 260H metre PALM360 luxury hotel and residential project on Dubai’s world-famous Palm Jumeirah.  The company has named the Dubai branch of BAUER Spezialtiefbau GmbH, headquartered in Germany, for the work, which will take four months to complete.  The milestone was marked today (Tuesday) at Expo Real in Munich, where Nakheel is currently showcasing EUR14 billion (AED58 billion) worth of projects, including PALM360. The process will involve driving almost 600 piles as far as 54 metres below ground in preparation for the construction of PALM360 which will be the tallest structure on Palm Jumeirah. The construction tender is expected to be released in Q1 2019, with project  completion in 2021.  PALM360 comprises the Raffles The Palm Dubai Hotel and Raffles Residences PALM360. The project will also boast the world’s largest sky pool, connecting the two towers 170 metres above ground, as well as a host of dining, leisure and wellbeing facilities. Located on Palm Jumeirah’s western crescent in 500,000 square feet of landscaped grounds, PALM360 will offer the ultimate in luxury living and leisure. Complementing 125 opulent Raffles hotel rooms are 331 Raffles-branded residences, including 16 ultra-plush penthouses spanning up to 12,000 sq ft – equivalent to four tennis courts. Each penthouse has its own infinity pool, gym, home theatre and as the name suggests, 360 degree views of Dubai.
